What is SEO?

There are many misconceptions floating around these days about the mysteries of SEO so we thought we’d start by keeping things simple, and actually explain what SEO is and why it’s important. 

Let’s start with the basics.

SEO stands for ‘Search Engine Optimisation’. It’s essentially a combination of many different elements that enable the likes of Google to best understand your website, weigh up its value and determine its relevance to users.

SEO is big, like REALLY big. There are so many elements of SEO to consider, including: backlinks, keywords, keyword density, relevant content, technical fixes and so much more.

There are many considerations to make when looking at your SEO strategy to ensure your website has the best chance of landing on that sought after first position on search pages. In a nutshell, it’s the process of improving the quality of your website. Making sure all links are functioning, content is relevant, keywords are used effectively, content is regularly updated, errors are fixed and so much more.

How do search engines view my website?

It can be overwhelming, we get it.

Essentially, search engines such as Google will only read your website if it’s indexed which a lot of people don’t know. You’re never guaranteed to appear for what you believe to be relevant for. It performs a series of very complex checks to ensure that they recommend only the highest quality and relevant content to a user.

If your website is full of broken links, a blog section that hasn’t been updated in months and uses generic keywords exclusively, Google is very unlikely to encourage potential customers and clients to head your way. Which ultimately means your website could be costing more money than its making.
